Job Postings: Recording Technician and Summer/Cultural Events Coordinator

CJAM 99.1 FM — Student Media/University of Windsor –– is hiring for the position of Recording Technician and Summer/Cultural Events Coordinator. These full-time positions are 35 hours a week for eight weeks and made possible through Canada Summer Jobs.

 All candidates must:

– be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment

– be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act

– be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations

 CJAM is a nonprofit volunteer-driven campus-based community radio station providing an alternative to the music and spoken-word programming featured in the mainstream media — serving listener communities that are often under represented or maligned.

 Job Title: Recording Technician

Tasks & Responsibilities:

Work with CJAM’s Broadcast Technician and Music Director to gain a full understanding of CJAM FM’s recording equipment and it’s operations

Create an inventory list of all recording equipment

Create a booking system for recording musicians

Provide training sessions for volunteers who want to record musicians in studio

Create handbook for volunteers outlining the recording process – specifically for recording musicians

Coordinate recording sessions with artists from the Windsor/Detroit area

Work alongside the Summer/Cultural Events Coordinator to hold recording sessions with artists who are coming to town for music or cultural events throughout the summer

Qualifications:

Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills

Demonstrated experience, and knowledge relating to non-commercial music, news, views, and culture

Strong organizational and time management skills

Conflict resolution and management skills

Computer and basic radio/audio production skills

Musician recording experience a plus

 Job Title: Summer/Cultural Events Coordinator

Tasks & Responsibilities:

Work alongside the Station Manager to enhance existing partnerships with local music and cultural festivals

Work alongside Windsor/Detroit event organizers to secure CJAMs participation as a media partner and/or advertiser.

Create a summer festival guide outlining the summer music and cultural events working with CJAM

Work alongside the Recording Technician to invite artists who will be performing at events into CJAM’s studio to create recordings that can be used as a way to help promote upcoming events

Create content that can be used on CJAM FM shows as a way to promote upcoming events

Assist in creating social media content when covering festivals and cultural events

Qualifications:

Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills

Demonstrated experience, and knowledge relating to non-commercial music, news, views, and culture

Experience in advertising and/or new media

Strong organizational and time management skills

Computer and basic radio/audio production skills

Photoshop and promotions experience a plus

Experience in cultural outreach a plus

Terms: 35 hours per week – 8 weeks period – $14.00 per hour
