Rendez-Vous de la Francophonie

Category: International/Ethno-Cultural

Rendez-vous de la Francophonie is an annual celebration of Canada's membership in the Francophonie and promotes the French language and its numerous cultural expressions. Check out the project website atwww.rvf.ca.

La Francophonie is an international organization representing countries and regions where French is the first or customary language and/or where a significant proportion of the population are Francophones and/or where there is a notable affiliation with French culture. Canada is one of its 57 member states. A full list of all members and observers can be found here. The head of the organization is former Canadian Governor General, Michaëlle Jean.

To help celebrate the Rendez-vous de la Francophonie, earlier this year 21 NCRA member stations from across Canada produced a total of 22 incredible documentaries, capsules and information updates on local Francophone culture, highlight Rendez-vous de la Francophonie events, and the importance of bilingualism.

The program in 2017 will expand to include the celebration of the 150 th anniversary of Canada, and will be happening with NCRA member stations for a 12 months period between October 2016 and October 2017 (Thought programming will last well into 2018). We are thrilled to announce that now up to 50 stations will have the opportunity to produce 28 minutes of audio each over the course of the project, providing $500 to the producer and $1000 for each station to assist in aiding the production process. A slight change from the last version is that just two standard formats will be allowed for the documentary.

This project is funded by La Fondation canadienne pour le dialogue des cultures and in partnership with the NCRA through Canadian Heritage.
