CJAM FM Monday Night Live series showcases local talent at Windsor Public Library

CJAM 99.1 FM and the Windsor Public Library are teaming up this August to bring a new series to Sandwich Towne. Monday Night Live will feature local artists, musicians, poets, and storytellers.

Hosted at the John Muir Branch, located at 363 Mill Street, the August 8th performance boasted a variety of talent including Teajai Travis (he/him), local storyteller, poet, activist, Executive Director at Artcite Inc, among a variety of talents. Josie Elysia (she/her) also joined the John Muir “stage” with an acoustic performance including their dynamic in-your-feels lyrics meshed with melodic soprano vocals.

The next performance on August 15th will include Windsor’s Youth Poet Laureate for 2021-2023, Romanian-Canadian artist Alexei Ungurenasu (they/them). Alexei began writing as a hobby, but also practices the arts in zines, crafts, paintings, and collages summoning the various places where they lived and visited. Alongside Alexei will be local musician Madeline Doornaert (she/her), who released her album, Muddy Water, in February of 2021 to much success.

Monday Night Live is a great way for new audiences to discover the local talent Windsor has to offer in a familiar, friendly atmosphere” said Weajue Mombo, curator for the series. “It’s a chance to enjoy a new artist you might never have otherwise come across. I had a lot of fun looking for new, and emerging artists to join us in this series.” Mombo is also the co-host of Absent Sounds, a music variety show on CJAM 99.1 FM that interviews musicians and explores albums in their entirety.

The Monday Night Live series will continue on August 15th and August 22nd at the Windsor Public Library John Muir Branch. CJAM 99.1 FM is a campus/community radio station, and has been broadcasting in the Windsor-Detroit area since 1983. They are dedicated to bringing voice to underground, marginalized, and local artists, musicians, and groups.
