CJAM 99.1 FM Job Posting – News Director

CJAM 99.1 FM Job Posting – News Director

Description:

With the support of the Community Radio Fund of Canada, CJAM 99.1 FM is hiring for the part-time contract position of News Director starting November 5 2012. The successful applicant will help to build and grow CJAM’s news department to better access various voices in our community that remain under-represented. The news director will respond to the need for news in Windsor not covered by mainstream media. This will help CJAM better access and serve Francophone communities, Aboriginal communities, campus communities, the newcomer population, and other marginalized communities. The goal is to make the news department a sustainable and self-reliant section of CJAM’s programming and we hope that the various shows created become a solid alternative to the one-note media outlets found elsewhere in the Windsor media.

Duties:

–          Act as the main coordinator to build and create the structure needed for this project — recruiting and training new volunteers and programmers to host news shows.
–          Create the structure for the news programming, including researching the needs of the community through consultation with key community stakeholders.
–          Creating a cohesive sound for our news programming, including creating themes, stingers, and artwork corresponding with each show.

Requirements:

–          Familiarity with campus/community radio
–          Have previous, provable experience in journalism or volunteer coordination.
–          A knowledge of basic journalism standards and CJAM’s listening community
–          Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a persuasive, tactful, and professional demeanor
–          Volunteer Experience at CJAM or another non-profit radio station
–          The ability to plan, coordinate, and promote radio programming
–          The ability to work in a collective atmosphere
–          Strong organizational skills

The start date for this position is scheduled for Nov. 5.

The deadline to apply is November 2nd at 5PM.

Please send your resume directly to Vernon Smith, CJAM Station Manager, at statcjam@gmail.com
