Joe Strummer Day – December 22 2012

On the tenth anniversary of The Clash frontman’s passing,
CJAM 99.1FM hosts the third annual Joe Strummer Day radio marathon on
Dec. 22, 2012. CJAM dedicates 24 hours to the music and life of Joe
Strummer in a bid to confront poverty in Windsor and Detroit.

Starting at midnight, CJAM will again devote 24 hours to the cause,
and that’s where our great programmers come in. All regular
programming will be pre-empted while our musicologists, activists, and
journalists work together to get the word out about an issue that was
close to Strummer’s heart.

“This is now our mission every December 22nd — to get the world to
listen to Windsor-Detroit poverty issues,” says Station Manager Vernon
Smith. “We marry that mission with the music of Joe Strummer because
so much of his songbook examines the connection between poverty and
oppression.”

Local listeners can tune in to CJAM at 99.1FM for a live broadcast,
while www.cjam.ca provides a global live stream and access to
exclusive content and archives. Leading up to and during the event
CJAM will be live on Facebook (www.facebook.com/JSDCJAM) and Twitter
(@CJAMFM).

CJAM will also hold a Saturday afternoon event featuring The
Magnificent Bastards, Chris Crossroads, and more at Villain’s Beastro
at 256 Pelissier with proceeds going to the Windsor-Youth Centre. For
the event, Serbo-Canadian artist and author Nina Bunjevac has created
a limited edition Joe Strummer Day T-shirt, which again will benefit
the Windsor Youth Centre. CJAM will take pre-orders for the T-shirt at
$35, with the price at $40 on Joe Strummer Day. Preorder the t-shirts today by e-mailing Station Manager, Vernon Smith at statcjam@uwindsor.ca .
