With the support of the Community Radio Fund of Canada, CJAM 99.1 FM is hiring for the contract position of Youth Internship (Music Department Community Outreach and Development Coordinator).
The successful applicant will help to build and grow CJAM’s music department to better access various voices in our community that remain under-represented.
This project will create a Youth Internship through CJAM’s Music Department aimed at (A) bringing local music of all genres, languages, and cultures into CJAM, while (B) educating artists of their rights, responsibilities and royalties. Mostly, however, it will bring local music and the people who make it (again, regardless of genre, language, and culture) into the CJAM community.
This internship will provide employment for a young person up to the age of 30 aspiring to work in music and/or broadcasting a real opportunity to work alongside CJAM’s Music Director, who is recognized locally, nationally, and internationally as expert on the process of musicians connecting with radio stations, DJs, music directors, record labels, and audiences.
The successful candidate will travel into music communities across the music board to bring the people and the music that they make back to CJAM. This will include direct outreach into indie rock communities, but just as importantly into musicians in culture communities, who, in many cases, are not aware of that CJAM is the best stage in Windsor-Detroit for music no matter the genre or language.
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with campus/community radio
- A knowledge of basic broadcasting standards and CJAM’s listening community
- Volunteer Experience at CJAM or another non-profit radio station
- The ability to work in a collective atmosphere
- Strong organizational skills
- Enthusiasm and a positive attitude
- Exceptional written and oral communication & outreach skills
- Ability to work to tight deadlines
The start date for this position is scheduled for Jan. 13, 2014 with the contract running until May 20, 2014. Interviews will commence early in the New Year.
Please send your resume directly to Vernon Smith, CJAM Station Manager, at statcjam@gmail.com. Deadline for applications: January 6 2013.
