International Women’s Day Marathon 2014

International Women’s Day takes over the airwaves on March 8th 2014. The entire day of programming will be spotlighting women’s music and issues, celebrating the achievements of the past and focusing on the struggles that still face women today. Tune in for many Saturday programs will be doing special Women’s Day editions of their shows. We’ve also asked different female CJAM DJs to host specials for the day.

Bear Trap (midnight – 2AM)
Kicking off International Women’s Day, Bear Trap is going to feature female artists from Trap, EDM, and hip hop. Anna Sky and special, pro-feminism guest Adeye S. will also be discussing feminist issues. Tune in Friday from 12-2am!

The Windsor Scene’s Lauren Hedges collects the poetry of the talented women of Windsor.

Focus on: Women in Prison (6PM -7PM)
Milk and Vodka’s Sarah Morris explores the lives of fastest growing prison population in Canada: women. Tune in for an hour of interviews and discussion with various organizations, including the Elizabeth Fry Society – Hamilton Branch, The Sentencing Project, and The Women’s Prison Association.

University of Cincinnati Women in Rhetoric: Politics of Sex Work (7PM-7:30PM)
Making CJAM’s International Women’s Day international, we are bringing you the discussion and research from the University of Cincinnati’s Women in Rhetoric course. They will be looking at the various aspects and politics of sex trafficking.

Milk and Vodka Music Special (7:30PM –  9PM)
Celebrate women by tuning in to a special IWD show with Milk and Vodka host Amy, who will be playing a variety of upbeat indie, folk, pop, and electronic tracks by incredible female artists and musicians. Get your dancing shoes on, because these tunes will get you out of your seat and ready for a perfect Saturday night on the town.

A Night in with the Girls (9PM – 10PM)
Join Lyssa and Rylee from 8 to 9pm for a frank and open discussion focusing on masturbation, toys and the stigmas associated with them.

Cowboys and Indies (10PM – 12:30AM)
Take a listen to the UK contribution to the Riot Grrrl movement and genre with Marc as we close out International Women’s Day.

The Trip  (12:30AM-2AM)
The Trip! lauds the 2014 IWD with a music from The 5678’s, Wanda Jackson, Lydia Lunch & tons more!

BONUS LEVEL: Take Me Down Under (Sunday: 5-6PM)
Take Me Down Under believes in the creativity, honesty, passion, and unique perspective of female artists from Down Under and beyond. On Sunday, March 9th, DJ Dahma will continue CJAM’s celebration of International Women’s Day by airing the voices of Aussie and Kiwi artists who are women. This special broadcast begins at 5pm and covers many genres. Don’t miss it!
