Each month we share a selection of singles from Windsor and Detroit artists. It’s a snapshot of what’s happening in our community right now, highlighting music we’re excited to put on your radar.

It’s September and the campus is once again buzzing with activity! It feels only fitting to start off this month’s CJAM Singles Club with a band fronted by UWindsor student, Paige Ashley. The newly formed four-piece, Porcelain, released their debut track “Your Ghost” in August with a solid production and energy that has us anxiously waiting for more. As a lead singer and frontwoman, Ashley’s vocals draw comparisons to Hayley Williams of Paramore and other powerful female-fronted pop rock bands.

Bonnie Hook – “songbird”

Happy to have a lot of representation from Detroit artists on this month’s Singles Club, and Bonnie Hook might be the most eclectic of the bunch. During the day she manages locally known plant-based food joint—but after hours she can be found playing a vivid spectrum of sound. Bonnie’s sound reflects the sonic world she calls home in Detroit. “Songbird” –the lead single from their new album “whitelodge”, released on September 2nd–blends folk and psychedelic rock influences taking listeners to a realm along the likes of Jessica Pratt and June Mcdoom.

Dan Dick – “Charlene”

Though this is only his third single as a solo act, Dan Dick is no stranger to the scene – best known as the keyboardist, singer, and co-leader of the psych-rock powerhouse band, The Brandy Alexanders, who’ve carved out a name for themselves in the Canadian indie scene. Dan’s latest track is perhaps his most personal one yet– “Charlene” is a dedication to his wife and jam-packed with emotion. The lyrics are thoughtful and deeply felt, wrapped in an epic production of lush strings, dreamy guitars, and the characteristic psych rock ‘Brandys’ energy.

KYLO – “Nimble”

Though she’s based in Toronto now, KYLO earns her spot on the CJAM Singles Club as a Windsor ex-pat. Once a local, always a local. “Nimble” marks the beginning of a new chapter for KYLO and is the first single from her upcoming album, The Space in Between. After previously releasing more electronic music, she has shifted toward a more intimate singer-songwriter sound. The more folk-oriented instrumentation and stripped-down, raw vocal production suit her voice, which soars above the band with a delicate, airy timbre. The track features guitar, mandolin, banjo and pedal steel, blending indie folk and alternative pop with a warm, organic sound.

Johnstonsons – “Impersonate”

Johnstonson’s newest single, “Impersonate,” channels some of our favourite brooding synthpop from days gone by. With a clear nod to bands like Tanlines in both songwriting and cover art, this new single builds anticipation for their upcoming debut release in October. No strangers to playing here in Windsor, “Impersonate” is an easy addition to this month’s singles club, tune in, turn on and synth out.

Datsunn – “Spirit of Paris”

Datsunn is an international artist who just so happens to call Windsor home. As a prolific content creator, you may be familiar with Datsunn from his Twitch streams, his captivating Instagram beat making videos, or his collaborations with major brands like Native Instruments, Roland, and many more. Datsunn’s entrancing blend of classic hip-hop, soul, and R&B cites influences that run the gamut from J Dilla to Lewis Taylor – his sound is smooth, soulful and an eclectic blend of many styles and eras. He represents an exciting new wave of music coming out of Windsor, Ontario, and its connection to Detroit, Michigan. His newest track, “Spirit of Paris” is a collaboration with Chillhop Music – a Dutch record label and brand that collaborates with artists from all over the world to bring listeners the best lofi beats paired with unique, handcrafted visuals.

Hyperlag – “Those Days Are Gone”

CJAM’s own Ryan Thibert (host of ‘Riff You to Shreds’ on Tuesdays 6:30-8pm) is one third of Windsor’s newest Alt-Rock venture, HYPERLAG. Each member brings a stacked musical resume to the table, having played in several bands on the rock and hardcore scenes over the years. Ryan (or ‘R5’, as he’s perhaps better known on the scene) and his main musical collaborator Kieran Wilson have played together in many bands such as Who Shot JR?, Olympia, Breakkr, and more recently Robotbrain, as well as other recording projects. Joining them on drums is Eric Oman, who’s played in Cloverjoy, Help, and Central Slang to name a few. Each member of the trio brings a varying musical taste, making for a unique, characteristic group sound. Their debut track, “Those Days are Gone” speaks to a universal theme of nostalgia, and introduces the band not with a polite knock, but rather a kicking-in of the door.

Listen to ‘Riff You to Shreds’ on CJAM each Tuesday from 6:30-8pm for 90 minutes of nothing but the heaviest, most crushing, mind-melting metal your brain can handle.

Flip The Switch – “Waste Away”

Flip the Switch was formed in June of 2025 and have been building a catalogue of high-energy, driving rock reminiscent of the early 2000s. Their second single, “Waste Away” is a breakup song that sounds defiant and triumphant even when the lyrics are self-depricating. Turn it up!

Johnny Renick – “Kevin Drop Kicked Me on Stage”

Johnny Renick’s latest release channels some of your favourite power pop/punk from the nineties. Catchy vocals with punchy guitar riffs are the hallmark of ‘Kevin Drop Kicked Me on Stage.’ A part of an EP titled Mind Wars also this month, Johnny’s first single is a good sign of what is to come…

Leech – “Burn”

Windsor Metalcore act ‘Leech’ delivers a relentless and punishing assault on their release “Naufragia.” Wrapped in layers of cathartic growls and ricocheting guitar riffs, ‘Burn’ stands up as a heavy standard,on the band’s latest A side release.

Bryce William – “Live”

Growing up in Metro Detroit just 10 miles from the iconic Hitsville, USA recording studios where Motown was born, Bryce William was highly influenced by the bounce and feel-good vibe of the ‘Motown sound’. His new track, just released on September 3rd, is a high energy track about everything that makes us human…..bad decisions, emotions, connection, and love. The instrumentation, song structure, and production are Motown through-and-through – this track could easily blend into your favourite ‘oldies’ playlist.

Aniya Lovelace – “Walk Before You Fly”

Aniya Lovelace is a singer, songwriter, and actress from Detroit, Michigan whose music explores themes of positivity, mental health, and self-love. “Walk Before You Fly” is a SoulPop track centered on perseverance, self-belief, and continuing to move forward even when progress takes time – a great message for back-to-school.
